DSCN1531This sculpture on the end of a burial crypt is one of my favorite items in a regional museum.  The very pretty Medusa, whose face is surrounded by her snaky hair, is meant to keep anything bad from reaching the body inside.  I always think if that was really the intent of the carver, he shouldn’t have made her so gorgeous.  This is the way I think of the original Medusa in my story:  beautiful, but cursed and sad so that when Perseus finally kills her, it must have been a relief not to have to live that way any longer.  What do you think?
